This study focuses on the analysis about the relation between song lyrics
and music video. The object of this research is Lana Del Rey‟s song entitled Video
Games (2011). Video Games song was written by Lana Del Rey and Justin Parker
while its music video was also directed by Lana herself. This research is classified
as qualitative research by using content analysis method. To answer the research
question, the data are analyzed by applying the theory of poetry and the theory of
film. The connection of the lyrics and its video is presented through the issue
about the woman, the man and the relationship. In the song lyrics, the woman is
depicted by diction, symbol and hyperbole; the man is described by diction,
symbol and metaphor; the relationship is portrayed by diction, symbol,
metonymy, and repetition. In the video clip, the three issues are shown through
mise-en-scène aspects which are setting, décor, properties, costume, make-up, and
hairstyle. Then, there are cinematography aspects which are film stock, lighting
and framing the shot. As a result, the woman is illustrated as a minor while the
man is domineering. Their relationship is represented as video games where there
is only pleasure which impress triviality. The finding suggests that there is
amplification correlation between the song lyrics and the music video.
