This research aim is to know the procedures of translation and to
determine the accuracy of the translation of traditional Javanese kitchen utensils
in the Second Edition of A Comprehensive Indonesian-English Dictionary by
Alan M. Stevens and A. Ed. Schmidgall-Telling through their semantic features.
In this research, the writer uses descriptive-qualitative method to analyze the
componential analysis of both source and target language.
The twelve traditional Javanese kitchen utensils as source language are
compared to their target language using componential analyisis. The componential
analysis data are taken from monolingual dictionaries. The data of etic and emic
point of view are gotten from native informants of source and target language.
The picture data of source language are given by the native informants, while the
target language pictures are taken from The Macmillan Dictionary and The Visual
Dictionary With Definition.
The analyzed data show three kinds of translation procedures which are
used in translating the terms, they are cultural equivalent, functional equivalent,
and descriptive equivalent. The twelve data can be classified into two, an accurate
translation and innacurate translation. Of the two classifications, nine of them are
included as accurate translation and the rests of them are included as inaccureate
translation.
