The purposes of the research are to identify information needs of
early teenagers of Buana Gardenia Residential Area in Pinang,
Tangerang, and to analyse their information seeking behaviour
through internet. The research uses descriptive-qualitative
approach and study case method. Sample is taken by purposive
sampling techniques. Data is collected by interview, observation
and literature study techniques. The result shows that the
information needs of the early teenagers are comprised of
academic and non-academic information. Academics information
needs engage with school affair information or subjects materials.
Whereas non-academic information needs include several topics:
actual/viral news, religion, interpersonal relationship, health and
self-care, sex, hobby/interest, and product information. The result
also reveals that early teenagers use internet-connected
smartphone at home to seek information through internet. The
information seeking behaviour through internet includes 3
phases—based on Wilson mode: Passive Attention, Passive
Search, and Active Search on several online source such as

Google, YouTube and Instagram. Ongoing Search is not
accomplished.
