This thesis aims to explore the characterization of Ruth Bader Ginsburg as the main character in relation to liberal feminism reflected in her character as presented in On the Basis of Sex (2018) film which produced by Mimi Leder and written by Daniel Stiepleman. The story takes place in America in between 1950s until 1970s. The writer analyzed the issue using Joseph M. Boggs and Dennis W. Petrie characterization theory and John Stuart Mill liberal feminism theory. In order to obtain the answer of this research, descriptive qualitative is used as the method in this thesis. According to the research findings, Ruth Ginsburg is portrayed as a critical, hardworking, stubborn, and ambitious woman. She struggled to achieve her dream as a lawyer. She experienced injustice because of her gender. Ruth reflected liberal feminism as she fights to gain equality in three aspects, which are education, employment, and law. Moreover, it was revealed that On the Basis of Sex (2018) film tries to reconstruct the stereotype of women as the film portrayed Ruth as a successful woman who breaks the stereotype and manages to participate in public sphere.
