This research aims to investigate two important things, which is to answer the factors behind the emergence of the interlingual errors in the students, and also to seek the correlation between the interlingual errors and the speaking ability. This research was made based on three factors. First because the lack of pronouncing the English consonants by the students despite the popularity of the English language. The second reason is to examine the interlingual errors by using the theory of minimal pairs. Furthermore, to raise the awareness that English pronunciation is important for English learners. This research is descriptive qualitative research, and Whatsapp Voice Notes is used to gather the data and to record the interlingual errors. This research found that there are five main minimal pairs which are being deviated the most by the students, which are /d/ & /ð/, /f/ & /v/, /ʃ/ & /t̠ʃ/, /d / & /ʤ/, and /t/ & /θ/. Not only that, this research also discovered that there are 4 classes of speaking ability in the students based on the interlingual errors that they made. In conclusion, the further the consonants from the Indonesian consonants system, the worse the pronunciation among the students. Besides that, this research proved that a correlation between the interlingual errors and the speaking ability exist among the students which is being determined by the level of interlingual errors. If the level of the interlingual errors is high, the speaking ability of the students is shabby and vice versa.
