Searle’s Illocutionary Act Used In Room Movie (2015)

This research focuses on the illocutionary act used by the characters in
Room movie by using John R. Searle’s illocutionary act theory. This
Research used qualitative method to describe and analyze the data. The
purpose of this research is to find out and analyze the types of
illocutionary acts used in the Room movie and to understand how the
illocutionary act conveyed in the movie. Based on the research, there
are found five types of illocutionary act in one hundred data that has
been filtered into fifty data to be analyze in this research, which are;
first, fifteen data of assertive illocutionary act indicate stating,
describing, explaining, denying, confessing, claiming. Second, twenty
one data of directive illocutionary act indicate, requesting, asking,
commanding, forbid, begging. Nine data of Expressive illocutionary act
indicate thanking, apologizing, greeting, congratulating, blaming. Four
data of commissive illocutionary act indicate promising, pledging,
swearing. One data of declaration illocutionary act indicate declaring.
Moreover, from fifty data that has been analyzed there are only five data
conveyed indirectly and the rest of them conveyed directly, this is
because the data found in conversation that is why direct utterances are
frequently used in this research
