Shrabani Basu’s World View On The Relation Between India And Britain In Victoria & Abdul: The True Story Of The Queen’s Closest Confidant Novel

This research aims to find out the author‘s world view of the relation between
India and British Empire depicted in Victoria and Abdul: the True Story of the
Queen's Closest Confidant novel by Shrabani Basu through the internal structures
of the novel. This research uses Lucien Goldmann's genetic-structuralism theory
as an approach. Qualitative method and descriptive analysis technique are used to
reveal the research findings. The data are taken from the quotation of the novel &
articles from the official websites related to the author‘s background and the
histories between the British Empire and India. The result shows that India as a
reliable and faithful country and the British Empire as an enthusiastic and
generous country. Moreover, Shrabani Basu as an Indian author reveals that the
British Empire still has binary opposition in dominating India. Nonetheless, the
relation between India and the British Empire since the colonial period until
nowadays shows harmony. Having to say that, India is only manipulated as the
object country and great asset for Britain, for gaining the prosperity and wealthy.
Meanwhile, the British Empire is a subject country which India deems that Britain
is a mother country.
