This research aims to analyze the metaphor translation strategies and its equivalent in the transcript of the State Address of The President of The Republic of Indonesia on The Occasion of The 71st Anniversary of The Proclamation of Independence of The Republic of Indonesia. This is a qualitative research that relies on verbal and other non-numeric data. The purpose of this research isto identify the metaphor translation strategies and to determine the meaning equivalent of the translation of metaphorical expression. The metaphor translation strategies are analyzed based on Newmark’s theory. The writer also uses the Nida’s theory to analyze the meaning equivalent. There are several metaphor translation strategies proposed by Newmark and each strategy is different depending on the type of the metaphor. Also, there are two types of equivalent, namely formal equivalent and dynamic equivalent. In this research, writer found 15 sentences that contain metaphors in the speech transcript as the data. Based on the metaphor translation strategies, there are 4 replacing the image in the SL with a standard TL image and 3 reproducing the SL image into TL image. Also, there are 3 translating the same metaphor combined with sense and 2 translating into ordinary language. Moreover, there are 2 retaining the series of metaphor and 1 converting metaphor to sense. Meanwhile, most of the meaning equivalent found by the researcher is dynamic equivalent 10 data (66,7%). On the other hand, formal equivalent is only 5 data (33,3%).
