The objective of this research is to understand types of translation methods and meaning equivalance applied in Disney songs lyrics A Whole New World translated into Dunia Baru by Nani Yugo and Cindy Bernadette and I See the Light translated into Lihat Cahaya by Nani Yugo, Elang Finest Tree and Cakka Finest Tree. The method of this research uses qualitative method to achieve the objective of this research. The data is analyzed by using Newmark’s translation methods and Nida’s equivalence theory.
The result of this research shows that five methods were used in the translation except free translation and semantic translation. The commonly found methods here are adaptation, literal translation, communicative translation, faithful translation, and idiomatic translation. Through this research also shows that equivalence applied in the song lyrics can be classified into formal equivalence and dynamic equivalence. The analysis explains that dynamic equivalence which was most collected in both of songs lyrics A Whole New World and I See the Light.
