Peran Perpustakaan Nasional Ri Dalam Meningkatkan Budaya Baca Anak Melalui Program Reading Aloud

The aim of this research is to determine the role of national library of Republic of
Indonesia in increasing the children‘s reading interest through reading aloud. This
type of research is qualitative descriptive study. The data collection was done by
doing observation, interview, and documentation. There's are 8 informants in this
research, first from the National library of Republic Indonesia, and then the
second informants are from library user. The role of the National Library of
Indonesia can be seen from the reading aloud program which is carried out
regularly and every time there is a school visit, the giving of the program's
characteristics in the form of a yellow apron used by librarians in this program,
cooperation with several parties, evaluation which is carried out continuously to
improve this program, and the provision of special infrastructure. Besides
informants from children who participated in this program responded positively to
this program and experienced an increase in reading culture. This program is open
to the public with the theme of the Nusantara story. Reading aloud is carried out
regularly every Saturday-Sunday at 10.00-11.00 WIB and every school visit is
made. The activity begins with reading information related to the book being read,
such as the title, author's name and class number. Then the librarian reads the
entire contents of the book. After that the participants were asked to retell the
contents of the book. The obstacles in the implementation of this event are
children who tend not to be able to focus for too long, and the choice of
vocabulary that must be paid close attention to because most of the participants
are children.
