Translating idiomatic expression can sometimes be problematic as they mostly have no direct equivalent available between source language and target language. This research is conducted with the aims to discover how translators deal with those issues through the analysis of Me Before You novel and its Indonesian translation Sebelum Mengenalmu. By using qualitative method this research is aimed to find non-equivalence idioms and identify the strategies to overcome non-equivalence idioms based on Baker’s concept of non-equivalence above word level and strategies in translating idiomatic expression. The data were also analyzed through a translation method stated by Newmark (1988). From fourteen selected data in this research, the result found that: 1) two strategies are applied in dealing with non-equivalence idioms, which are translating idiom by paraphrase (9 frequencies) and translating idiom by using similar meaning but dissimilar form (5 frequencies). 2) two translation methods occured in Me Before You into Sebelum Mengenangmu translation, which are communicative translation method (8 frequencies) and idiomatic translation method (6 frequencies). Despite the fact that the concrete meaning and the play on idioms may be lost, particular modification may also result a more understandable translation for target readers.
