This research analyzes grammatical and lexical cohesion devices of Donald
Trump speech text about Syria Air Strikes. The purposes of this research are to
know how are the use of grammatical cohesion in the speech and how are the use
of lexical cohesion in the speech of Donald Trump about Syria Air Strikes. The
author uses the theory of Halliday and Hassan about cohesion devices that appears
in the speech delivered by the president of America, Donald Trump.This analysis
finds
that there are four kinds of grammatical cohesion namely reference,
substitution, ellipsis and conjunction. While lexical cohesion appeared in the
speech namely reiteration and collocation. Repetition, synonym, near-synonym,
superordinate and general word are kinds of reiteration. In grammatical cohesion,
the speaker mostly use reference in the speech, while in lexical cohesion, the
speaker mostly use collocation.
