a rebellion against Roman colonization in the 1st century AD. The data collected
includes phrases, sentences, and images representing oppression and women's
struggle against oppression. Using Iris Marion Young's concept of oppression
combined with Jhon Stuart Mill’s liberal feminist perspective, the writer found the
types of oppression experienced by Boudicca, which included marginalization,
powerlessness, and physical violence. Furthermore, the research identified that
Boudicca resisted oppression through her growing awareness of her marginalised
position and her transformation as a leader. She asserted her equality with men not
only by changing her appearance to challenge gender norms, but also by
demonstrating her abilities in leadership and military strategy. This reflects her
desire to gain recognition and respect in a male-dominated society, thereby
proving that women can embody the power and authority traditionally reserved
for men.
