The purpose of this research to analyze how turn taking mechanisms
occured in the talkshow between Anderson Cooper with Donal Trump and
members of his family. In this case, the aims of the research : (1) to identify turn
taking in the conversation that occurs on selected transcipt video talkshow. (2) To
know which is the ‘dominant mechanism’ happened in their conversation. (3) To
know the dominant mechanism make their conversation in pragmatic meaning are
successful or not.The methods of this research use qualitative method. The
research will be answered in analytical description. The collected turn taking
mechanism is picked up randomly then be classified based on the same kind. Turn
taking mechanism in their conversation analyzed by using Jacobs L Mey’s theory.
The result of this research shows that there are twenty eight data collected from
random sampling, the collected data resulted on three kind of turn taking
mechanisms. There are three kind of turn taking mechanisms : taking the floor,
holding the floor, and yielding the floor.
