This study is about to analyze the repair in conversation which occurs during the talk show, The Wendy Williams Show, which was aired on 20 March 2014 entitled The Muppets Most Wanted and Dad Banned from Delivery Room. This study aims to determine the types of repair that occur during the conversation, also to describe the repair that occur in the conversation based on the participants’ reason.
This study goes under qualitative descriptive method with Repair from Conversation Analysis as the concept to describe the types and to analyze the reason behind the use of certain repair in the conversation. The writer goes through the several process by examines the transcription of the interview video to collect the data, and then divides it according to the types of repair to analyze it based on Schegloff, Jefferson and Sacks’ theory.
The study shows that the occurrence of certain repair types in the conversation has a specific reason according to the participants, which affects the frequency of the variety appearances of the repair types in the analysis. The reason is apparently depends on the participants’ perspective and also the condition that allows the participant to perform a repair.
